The Rise of Electric Bikes in Pakistan's Delivery Sector
# The Rise of Electric Bikes in Pakistan's Delivery Sector Electric vehicles are no longer a distant dream for Pakistani delivery riders. In 2025, EV bike registrations in Pakistan crossed 500,000 — a tenfold increase from 2022. ## Why Riders Are Making the Switch The math is simple. A petrol bike costs around PKR 250–300 per day in fuel. An EV bike costs just PKR 30–40 in electricity for the same distance. Over a month, that's a saving of nearly PKR 6,000–8,000 — a significant chunk of a rider's income. ## The Challenges Despite the excitement, challenges remain: - **Charging infrastructure**: Public charging stations are scarce outside major cities. - **Battery replacement**: Batteries degrade over time and cost PKR 15,000–25,000 to replace. - **Range anxiety**: Most affordable EV bikes offer only 80–120 km per charge. ## GRN's EV Initiative Global Riders Network has partnered with three EV manufacturers to offer subsidized bikes to registered riders, along with a battery swap program in Karachi and Lahore. Over 2,000 riders have already benefited. The future is electric — and for delivery riders, it can't come soon enough.
